Deep Tissue Massage and Stretching
Sports Massage involves many of the techniques of Swedish massage, usually with greater and pointed pressure to the areas that most need work. Sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. There are three contexts in which sports massage can be useful to an athlete: pre-event, post-event, and injury treatment. After an event this massage can speed recovery to continue training. General and specific assisted stretching may be used to help tight and sore muscles. Two warm stones and a moist heating pad are incorporated into the areas that are sore from training. The sports massage therapist may also make more use of friction techniques that involve applying deep pressure to tissues repeatedly to break down adhesions (healed tears on tendons and muscles) and soften scar tissue.
